Mindfulness course

Description

Mindfulness is a way of being present – to pause and pay close attention to what we are feeling, thinking, sensing or doing from moment to moment, without getting lost into old habits of the mind such as ruminating about the past or worrying about the future.

Practicing mindfulness is like exercising a muscle. As our mindfulness muscle becomes stronger, we can see more clearly the patterns of our mind and learn to respond more calmly and skillfully to unpleasant thoughts, distressing moods or pain.

While mindfulness has its roots in Buddhism, our Mindfulness course is taught in a secular way and anyone with any belief system can enjoy the benefits of mindfulness. It is a highly experiential course and incorporates elements of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy training and compassionate training.

By the end of the course, you will have begun to develop a more skillful way of dealing with challenging thoughts, feelings and physical sensations, and a kinder and more compassionate way of being with yourself and others.

The Mindfulness course is an 8-week course with 2-hour sessions. Because the course requires this level of commitment, if you are interested in mindfulness we will ask you to attend a Mindfulness Taster first to practice some mindfulness and see if it is for you. We run Mindfulness Tasters before every course.
