I’ve worked with CHANGES since the last century as it was 1998 when I first started with the organisation. My entire career has involed working with the public, firstly in housing, then mental health advocacy and now through CHANGES. Over the years I’ve been involved in quite a number of roles within the project and have seen how through CHANGES the support for people in East Lothian has grown.
I work part-time along with twenty plus Volunteers who support the Healthy Living Project. The activities through this project have also grown over the years and now includes Nordic Walks, Buddy Walks, Cycling, Gentle Exercise, Tai Chi, Singing for Fun, Beginners Ukulele, Eat Well-Keep Active course and the WELL Outdoor activity programme.
I’m privilaged to work with such a fantastic team of Volunteers who continue year after year to faciliate the groups and classes for local people as they see how beneficial these activities are to our health and wellbeing.
The Volunteers have been recogisned a number of times by winning the Paths for All, Health Walk Group of the Year in 2015 and the Inspiring Volunteering Awards East Lothian, Volunteer Team both in 2012 and 2017.
I would encourage anyone who feels they might want to try out any of these activities to get in touch, as I know from my own experience that being active, especially in the company of others and/or learning something new, has a huge positive impact on mental health wellbeing.
